The Beatles tune has been going through my head all night. “It’s a thousand pages, give or take a few, I’ll be writing more in a week or two.” Man, if only. In another post I said it took me years to write Mad World. I wasn’t exaggerating. Even now, I had to put an arbitrary launch date on it ( June 30) to make myself stop fiddling. It feels like a beach read to me, so I wanted it out for summer, and today is officially the first day of summer. I spent an hour last night playing with spacing, uploading versions to Draft2Digital and scrutinizing the sample files. I have to stop some time.

This book came from an idea or two that I had early in the Bush administration. At the time I had three young children so writing time was scarce. I finished the first draft and set it aside to start another novel, Stinger. I came back and revised it during Obama’s first term but it was largely in shape by then. Since then, I’ve been fiddling with it, making minor edits and adding scenes. This winter I found out about the current state of Indie publishing (I’ll blog about that a bit later) and decided to finally get it out there. For me, writing is a slow process….
